Maresca: Barcelona is an amazing team, and Estêvão heralds a promising future for Chelsea
Monday 24-11-2025
Enzo Maresca, the head coach of Chelsea, revealed the latest team news ahead of tomorrow evening's match against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League.

Maresca said about Cole Palmer's condition: "Yes, Cole is wearing a medical boot. We don't know when he will be back to full fitness, but it will be soon. He is already on the field and touching the ball, and the feeling is good."

He added: "Right now, we are focusing solely on tomorrow's match, which is a Champions League game against Barcelona. That is our focus, and after that, we will think about the match against Arsenal. I don't think he will be available for these two games, but he is recovering well."

He continued: "Of course, it's a big week for us, but after this week, we have another important week. Every week is important, and every match is for three points. Certainly, matches like Barcelona and Arsenal are significant for different reasons, but the best thing for us is to focus on one match at a time."

Maresca said about the Catalan team under Flick's leadership: "Barcelona under Flick is an amazing team. Every time I watch them, there's something new to learn. Last season, they won the league and reached the Champions League semifinals. They do many things well, and they are a team that always seeks to take the initiative. We will strive to do the same."

He added about Pedri's absence: "It's not just Barcelona that loses out, but football as a whole because he is a player of incredible quality."

Maresca continued explaining why he chose to become a coach: "I decided to become a coach because of Barcelona under Pep Guardiola's leadership. If other teams choose to play differently, that's their right. I have chosen my own style years ago, which is how I like to see my team play. No one can compare to Barcelona under Guardiola; they changed football in Spain, with all teams trying to play that way. Then Guardiola went to Germany and the national team there succeeded. After that, he came to England, and other teams tried to adopt his style, and the national club improved as well. No one can compare."

He also spoke about Estêvão: "He is playing at an excellent level, and we hope he continues to develop to become one of the team's standout players. He is young and has the potential to give even more, and we are very happy with him. He resembles Pedri and is great for football fans. We are glad to have him with us, and he will be an important player for the club's future. The most important thing is that he is happy; he shouldn't worry about surpassing others. He just needs to work day by day, and he will become a top-class player."

He added about Marc Guayo, a player from Barcelona's academy: "Marc has developed well, and this season was a bit unusual because he was loaned out and then returned. We are happy with him, but he needs to work to be ready when he gets the opportunity."

Maresca continued speaking about the importance of balance when facing Barcelona: "Barcelona's advanced line is an important factor to consider, and maintaining a good balance between defense and attack is essential to achieve victory."
