Laporta: Messi's visit was an impulsive act stemming from his belonging to Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that Argentine star Lionel Messi's visit to Spotify Camp Nou was an impulsive act stemming from his love for the club, noting that the relationship between them is going smoothly. Laporta made these statements during an interview with Catalonia Radio, reported by the Spanish newspaper 'Marca'.
Laporta said about Messi's visit: "I welcomed the visit positively; it was an impulsive act stemming from his belonging to Barcelona. I was not aware of it, but it is his home. He was with his friends after dinner and passed by spontaneously. I did not send him any message. Our relationship is natural, and he knows that he is loved and respected as he deserves, and he will always be welcome here. It is fair that he receives the best tribute in the world, and it would be wonderful for this tribute to take place in front of 105,000 fans."
Regarding Messi's departure, the Barcelona president said: "I do not feel regret; Barcelona is above all. It was not possible for him to stay at that time, but if the tribute helps him, that would be great."
Laporta also touched on the possibility of Messi returning to play for Barcelona, affirming: "Out of great respect for Messi and the current players, I do not wish to engage in unrealistic speculation; this is not appropriate."
In the context of discussing the project to develop Spotify Camp Nou, Laporta explained: "It is very moving to be here. I think about the past, present, and future. The fans are excited, and this excitement is contagious. We started the project 15 years ago, and we are moving very quickly over the past two and a half years, but we want to return to our home as soon as possible."
Laporta concluded his statements by emphasizing the club's management commitment to laws regarding worker conditions within the stadium project, saying: "We always demand adherence to the law, and no serious incidents have occurred. We are satisfied with the Limak company because they are committed and feel a sense of belonging to the club."
