Guardiola: Happy for Haaland, it was a complicated match
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke in press statements after the 4-1 victory over Dortmund in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage at the Etihad Stadium.
He said, "Considering that we played just two days ago, and Dortmund is always a strong team in the Champions League, the match was complicated. In the first 15 minutes, we didn't know where we stood, then we started to keep the ball longer, break lines, and attack, and the situation improved."
He added about the moments after the goal the team conceded: "For 10 or 15 minutes after the goal we conceded, we weren't good because they pushed five or six or seven players forward and linked their movements quickly. But after Ruben Dias came on and we played with five defenders, we became better on the flanks and finished the match well."
He continued: "I have great respect for the players. We are in a good position, and with the victory against Bayer Leverkusen and the upcoming matches, we can get closer to securing a spot among the top eight."
Regarding Haaland's new record: "I didn't know. Every time I come here, you tell me he has achieved a new record. I'm happy for him; he deserves it. The better players he has around him, the easier it is. This is what happens in big clubs. Good players raise everyone's level."
Haaland has become the first player to score in five consecutive Champions League matches with three different clubs in history, and he has also become the tenth top scorer in Champions League history (54 goals).
