Arteta: We have a chance to win the title, and this is my message to the team
Friday 31-10-2025
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Burnley, in the tenth round of the Premier League, at Turf Moor.

He began his talk about winning the title this season: "Yes, it's a great opportunity for us this season, but we must maintain a consistent level of performance and realize how difficult that is. Tomorrow's match will be very tough for us, and we will need to deliver an outstanding performance if we want to win."

Regarding injuries and the team's condition: "Martinelli is still not ready, and we have to wait to assess Saliba after another training session this evening. The rest of the injured players are getting closer to returning, but they will not be available yet."

He added: "We are not sure how long Martinelli will be out, but certainly tomorrow's match is too early for his return."

On the return of long-term absentees like Ødegaard, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Madueke, and Kai Havertz, Arteta said: "It could take a few weeks. Some are very close to returning, and maybe after the international break, we will have a number of them ready, perhaps all of them. We will be very close to having the entire team back by then."

Regarding the match against Burnley: "It will be a tough match. Burnley is a very organized team, and coach Scott Parker has done a great job there. When you look at their recent matches, you see that they are a very difficult team to beat."

He added: "My message to the team is clear: continue with the same determination and speed. We need to maintain the focus, ambition, and discipline that we show in every match. Every match brings different challenges — sometimes we need patience, and sometimes a different approach."

When asked if choosing the starting lineup has become the worst part of his job, he said: "No, I can't say that. It is the worst part in terms of making decisions with some players when we don't allow them to play, and it's the toughest part of our job. But they acknowledge that too, in the end, when they make decisions — some good and some bad — I don't judge them based on every decision they make. We can't do that. So, on the contrary, this cannot happen; at the moment, we are dealing with it in a very positive way, and you can see the consequences of that in the impact each non-participating player has when forced to play, and in the way they perform. The way to achieve that is through good preparation and a good mental state."

He concluded about the lack of any promoted team currently in the relegation zone, reflecting the strength of this year's league: "The level of the league is increasing year after year more than ever. Better structure and organization, better decisions from clubs and coaches. Better players. This shows the difficulty of it. When you look at the teams and their behavior — how they earned or lost points — you find that the reason is the small points difference. That is the reality in this league.
