French newspaper 'L'Équipe' reported that Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri may face suspension after being accused of spitting on Leeds United fans during the match between the two teams last Saturday, which ended with Burnley winning 2-0.

The newspaper explained that the English Football Association and Lancashire Police have opened an investigation into the incident, as the relevant authorities seek to determine the circumstances before making any decision regarding potential sanctions against the Tunisian player.

According to the same source, Leeds fans who attended the match confirmed that Mejbri spat at them during the second half, while the police intervened and began the investigation in cooperation with Burnley to clarify the facts.

The newspaper added that the English Football Association will wait for the results of the official investigations before taking any disciplinary action, and it is noted that Mejbri, the Tunisian international with 37 caps and one goal, entered the match as a substitute in the 83rd minute and received a yellow card after a strong challenge on Leeds player Gabriel Gudmundsson in injury time.
