Guardiola: I have 5 years before taking a break, and this is the state of the team

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Everton in the eighth round of the English Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

The coach said: "There is nothing new regarding Rodri; he is not ready for tomorrow's match, and I don't know when he will return. Kovacic may participate for 50 or 60 minutes. He needs to gradually regain his rhythm. The important thing is that he is returning step by step. Marmoush and Ait-Nouri trained yesterday, and they are much better now, getting closer to returning."

He added: "Gvardiol is a young player. He was one of the most important players for us last season when we faced many problems. This season started with difficulties due to injury, but he is clearly improving now. In my opinion, he has a lot of room to develop as a player. He is amazing and easy to direct, has a great personality, listens a lot, and has a strong desire to learn, which will help him a lot to become a better player. He can play on both sides, right and left, and performs well on both."

Regarding his situation at Manchester City, he said: "We have changed a lot over the past year, but the energy between the coaching staff and the new players is still there. In Barcelona and Bayern Munich, I felt that when I faced a problem, I should step aside, but here I don't feel that way. Right now, I feel that I have enough energy with the players to deliver a better season than last season, and that is my goal."

He emphasized: "I don't say in November or December that we will win this title or that, but I see that we are improving in every match, and there are many areas where we can develop, and that gives me the motivation to continue. My work here is not finished yet; we still have a lot to offer, and that is why I am here."

On the possibility of taking a break from coaching, he said: "I will start thinking about that in 2035."

Regarding the continuity of the Manchester City project, he said: "When you work in the same place for long decades, it becomes completely different, but it happens naturally. The club, the players, the coach — everyone feels a single spirit. We are no longer as we were at the beginning, and the relationship between me and the club officials is very strong. It's not just about me; many of my staff have left. Everyone has their desires and ambitions, but I am still here in front of you now, and we will see what happens later."

He continued about Erling Haaland: "I think he is in his best physical condition right now. His level is extremely high, but it's normal for this great performance not to last all the time. When his level drops, we will be by his side — the whole team will be there to support him. He doesn't need praise or special treatment, just consistency."

On Norway qualifying for the World Cup: "Going to the World Cup in the United States would be great and very important for him and his national team."

Regarding Jack Grealish, the Everton player: "His impact has been significant since day one. He plays well, and that’s what he wanted. He is a great person; he hasn't played with us for a while for various reasons, but now he is back to seriousness and real work, participating in every match. I spoke with him when he left on loan in the summer, but I haven't been in touch with him since then."

He concluded about Nico Orelli being nominated for the Golden Boy award: "In the days we play with him, we find him performing wonderfully. But he is a young player. He needs to be careful about praise and awards, as it is important for him to be mentally stable. We need young players to continue their careers for 10-15 years, and that cannot be achieved without mental stability. His joining the national team with Thomas [Tuchel] is very important for him at this young age."
