Xavi Hernandez: Morocco Could Rewrite History in the 2026 World Cup
The Spanish star Xavi Hernandez, the former coach of FC Barcelona, expressed his great admiration for the Moroccan national team, considering it could be one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 World Cup, just as it was in the last edition in Qatar.
During an interview with Sky Sports, Xavi was asked about the teams that could cause surprises in the upcoming World Cup, to which he replied: "It's not easy; there are teams like Belgium and Croatia that have quality, but they are no longer considered real surprises... and perhaps Morocco again."
The Barcelona legend confirmed that the "Atlas Lions" have the elements to repeat the historic achievement they made in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, when they reached the semifinals for the first time in the history of Arab and African football, thanks to their tactical discipline and high collective spirit.
Regarding his predictions for the title, Xavi expressed his confidence in the Spanish national team, despite their early exit in the last edition against Morocco in the Round of 16 on penalties, believing that "the new generation of players is capable of competing strongly."
Xavi also expressed his hope for Lamine Yamal to shine in the upcoming tournament, wishing that the young Spaniard wins the award for the best player in the World Cup, also noting that Pedri has great potential to be one of the stars of the global event.
It is worth mentioning that Xavi has previously won the World Cup with his national team in the 2010 South Africa edition, as part of the golden generation that included Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, and Casillas.
