De Jong's Contract Renewal Date with Barcelona
The Spanish newspaper 'Marca' reported that Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong will officially sign his contract renewal with the Catalan club on Wednesday, after his current contract was set to expire in June 2026.
The newspaper explained that the Barcelona management, under coach Hans Flick, was keen on retaining most of the current players as part of their sports plan, and de Jong was the last player to finalize a contract renewal agreement after months of negotiations. The media was invited to attend the signing ceremony at the club's commercial office at 1:30 PM Cairo time to officially announce the agreement.
Marca added that the 28-year-old player, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in July 2019, has regained his essential role in midfield after overcoming his ankle injury from last season, forming a double pivot with Pedri, which strengthened his position in the starting lineup and contributed to pushing the negotiations towards renewal.
The newspaper noted that de Jong, one of the team leaders, has participated in eight matches this season so far, bringing his total appearances with Barcelona to 267 matches, while fans have replaced previous boos with applause in appreciation of his level and consistent performance.
