AS Monaco has officially announced through its website the appointment of Belgian coach Sebastian Boucanioli as the new head coach of the first team, with a contract extending until June 2027.
Boucanioli, who is 38 years old, joins Monaco after a successful stint with Royal Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian league, where he became known for his attractive attacking style of play and impressive results that led him to achieve historic accomplishments.
During his season with Saint-Gilloise, Boucanioli managed to secure the Belgian league title for the first time in 90 years, alongside winning the Belgian Super Cup.
The coach also received the Coach of the Year award in the Belgian league after leading his team to the top of the competition and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, where he achieved a notable victory over PSV Eindhoven with a score of 3-1 away from home.
Boucanioli has a distinguished career as a former player, having played over 360 professional matches in the leagues of Belgium, England, the Netherlands, and Germany, and represented the Belgium national team in 13 international matches.
After retiring in 2021, he began his coaching career with youth teams at Saint-Gilloise, Genk, and the Belgium U18 national team.
