Training License Prevents Felipe Luis's Move to Leverkusen
German press reports revealed the Brazilian Felipe Luis's approach to taking over the technical leadership of Bayer Leverkusen in the past period, after negotiations between the two parties reached advanced stages, before the deal faltered due to an administrative obstacle related to his coaching certificates.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, a correspondent for Sky Sport Germany, Luis does not possess the 'UEFA Pro' license required to coach European clubs and currently relies on a coaching license issued by the South American Football Confederation 'CONMEBOL'. This prompted Leverkusen's management to contact the Union of European Football Associations 'UEFA' in search of a legal way to complete the contract.
However, the lengthy procedures required to obtain approval or a special exception prevented the agreement from being completed, especially since the Brazilian coach was not prepared to wait any longer, at a time when the French club Monaco intensified its moves to sign him.
In contrast, Monaco expressed its willingness to bear financial penalties that could reach 25,000 euros per match if the regulations required, in order to complete the contract with the 40-year-old coach.
The reports also indicated that the CONMEBOL license Luis holds will automatically equate to the 'UEFA Pro' license after completing three years as head coach, in case he does not obtain a special exception before that. Luis has been coaching Flamengo for about a year and a half.
