Arsenal Considers Expanding Emirates Stadium and Moving to Wembley
Tuesday 07-10-2025
The British newspaper "The Telegraph" reported that Arsenal is planning a significant expansion of its Emirates Stadium, which may force the club to temporarily move its matches to Wembley during the execution of the project.

The report clarified that the expansion aims to increase the stadium's capacity from 60,700 spectators to over 70,000, to restore Arsenal's status as the largest stadium in London, surpassing West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. The plans include adjusting the slope of the stands and reorganizing the seats to increase capacity while maintaining the stadium's exterior design.

This project comes amid rising demand for season tickets, which has exceeded 100,000 fans, in addition to the club's desire to increase annual revenues by millions of pounds. The cost of the expansion is expected to reach hundreds of millions, as it will affect most parts of the stadium, not just one section.

The newspaper noted that Arsenal is considering the experience of Real Madrid after the development of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which doubled its daily revenues to 241 million euros. The club plans to implement a similar model in terms of a multi-purpose stadium and digital technologies to host major sports and entertainment events.

It is worth mentioning that the Emirates Stadium is located on a 17-acre site in a residential area, which imposes legal and architectural restrictions on the expansion. However, discussions with architects are positive, including the possibility of modifying the roof or adding new rows of seats.

Temporarily moving matches to Wembley would be a logical option, as was the case with Tottenham previously, if construction work begins, since Wembley has experience hosting major Premier League matches and international concerts.

The project serves as a confirmation of the Kroenke family's commitment, the club's owners, to Arsenal's long-term future, especially after significant investments during the COVID-19 pandemic to cover the absence of match revenues.
