Arteta: This is Difficult, and I'm Happy for the Win
Thursday 02-10-2025
Arsenal's head coach Mikel Arteta appeared in press statements after the 2-0 victory over Olympiacos in the second round of the Champions League group stage.

He said: "I am very happy with the win and keeping our clean sheet against a very tough opponent. We started the match very well, scored a goal, and had some dangerous chances. We became a bit more open, and we needed a great save from David Raya to maintain our clean sheet. After this match, and after our match against Newcastle, we praise the players' performance."

Regarding exploiting opportunities: "They entered the penalty area in three or four minutes and posed a real threat. We had to press hard to control them and win the match."

On maintaining a clean sheet: "This is very difficult, so I commend the players. The consistency we show in this competition against very strong opponents, and we will play again on Saturday against West Ham United."

About Martin Ødegaard's performance: "He was fantastic. He impacted the match in a very significant way for us. He kept the attacking play going and passed the ball towards the goal. He should have scored a goal as well, so it's very good to see him back at this level." About the depth of the team: "I want everyone to be a big part of that. The players came in to help. Any player who participates adds a new dimension to the team."

On defender Gabriel's injury: "He was suffering from a bruise in the first half, and we decided to substitute him."

Regarding the match against West Ham, which will be his 300th match with Arsenal: "I didn't know that, it's a lot of matches for this club, so I feel a great pride and gratitude to everyone who has allowed me to stay here for this long."
