Death of Former Arsenal Player Due to Head Injury
Thursday 25-09-2025
The English club Chichester City, one of the amateur clubs in England, announced the death of its young player Billy Vigar at the age of 21, after he suffered a serious brain injury during his team's match against Wingate & Finchley last week.

Vigar had collided with a concrete wall while trying to prevent the ball from going out for a throw-in, which resulted in a severe head injury and led to him falling into a coma, prompting the match to be stopped after just 13 minutes and his transfer to the hospital by ambulance and air ambulance.

The player underwent surgery to enhance his chances of recovery, but his condition did not improve, and he passed away on Thursday morning, according to an official statement from the English club.

Vigar began his football career at Arsenal's Hale End Academy, progressing through the youth teams up to the under-21 level, before leaving in the summer of 2024. He had several loan spells with clubs such as Derby County, Eastbourne Borough, and Hastings United, before joining Chichester City last August.

For its part, Arsenal said in an official statement: "We are deeply shocked and saddened... Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Billy."
