Arteta: This is why we signed Eze, and we knew this was the case

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta spoke in press statements after qualifying for the Round of 16 of the English League Cup by defeating Port Vale 2-0.

The coach said: "The most important thing is the reputation, and this is extremely important. We knew that the fans would support them if we gave them anything. In the second half, we lacked control in every throw-in there."

He added: "They played directly and wanted to attack the penalty area, and we wanted to avoid that. We went through moments in the match where we were very dominant and very good."

Regarding Eberechi Eze, he said: "This is why we signed him, to win football matches. I think he should have scored two more goals."

On Eze's position: "It depends on the players around him, and in some moments where the space was tight, we moved him to another position. He is a player who needs to be in contact with the ball, and we find ways to do that."

He continued about Christian Norgaard: "What he brings is character and leadership. I am very happy with him and with the players who haven't played much."

He noted: "We started with five players who couldn't finish the match; they handled the situation well."

He concluded regarding Bukayo Saka's participation: "We wanted to involve him for a maximum of 60 minutes, as he is coming back from a serious injury, and we have to manage his playing minutes."
