Gasperini: The goal could have been avoided, and Dybala felt a minor physical issue
Sunday 14-09-2025
The head coach of AS Roma, Gian Piero Gasperini, commented on his team's surprising loss to Torino by a single goal in the match held at the Olimpico Stadium during the third round of the Italian Serie A for the 2025/2026 season.

Gasperini said: "I don't think we played a bad match; we were good on the field and controlled the course of the game for long periods, but we lacked the final touch and attacking effectiveness in front of goal."

He added: "From the start, we were lacking the ability to shoot and finish our attacks; we didn't provide the decisive pass or make the right decision in the final third of the pitch."

He continued: "The match was decided by a goal that could be described as avoidable; the high temperature affected the players' energy, and everything became more complicated as time went on."

Regarding the reason for substituting Argentine star Paulo Dybala in the second half, Gasperini explained: "Dybala felt a slight physical discomfort, specifically during one of the free kicks, so I preferred to take him out. We hope the injury is not serious, and it doesn't seem to be at the moment."

The giallorossi coach concluded his comments by discussing his tactical decisions, saying: "I decided to start with Dybala and Soli in the front line instead of outright strikers like Duvbik and Ferguson. It was a possible option for us, but we weren't dangerous enough in the first half."

It is worth noting that Roma's loss to Torino is the team's first this season, ahead of the anticipated derby match against Lazio next Sunday, September 21, 2025.
