Totti Nearing Return to Rome
Italian press reports indicate the possibility of the return of AS Roma legend Francesco Totti to the club in a new administrative role, supported by coach Gian Piero Gasperini and club owner Ryan Friedkin.
The newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" reported that Gasperini suggested the idea of bringing Totti back to work within AS Roma in collaboration with the potential new sporting director, Tony D'Amico, who is expected to take up his position after leaving Atalanta.
Totti spent his entire career as a player with Roma before retiring in 2017. He then worked briefly in the club's administrative staff until 2019, before leaving due to feeling that he was not given sufficient authority.
The newspaper added that the Friedkin family had previously contacted Totti to be the ambassador for the club's centenary in 2027, but Gasperini is pushing to give him a more significant role within the administrative structure.
The Italian coach believes that Totti can serve as a link between the team and the administrative staff, contributing to enhancing harmony within the club. This was the role that Claudio Ranieri was supposed to fulfill before his mission ended due to disagreements with Gasperini during the season.
