Real Madrid finished the first month of the league at the top of the standings with a total of 9 points, following three consecutive victories, starting with a win over Osasuna 1-0, then a victory over Real Oviedo 3-0, before defeating Real Mallorca 2-1 in the third round.
This award is Alonso's first in La Liga, as he surpassed both Ernesto Valverde, the coach of Athletic Bilbao, and Manolo González, the coach of Espanyol, in the final voting.
