Infantino Approaches a New Term
Swiss Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), officially announced his candidacy for the FIFA presidency elections for a new term extending from 2027 to 2031.
Infantino confirmed that he has received wide support from continental federations, with the Asian Football Confederation announcing its support with 47 votes, while the African Football Confederation granted him its support with 54 votes, bringing the total number of supporting votes so far to 101.
On the other hand, there are still 111 undecided votes, representing the federations of Europe, North and South America, and Oceania, which keeps the race open in the coming period before determining the identity of the next FIFA president.
Infantino's term as President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) ends in March 2027, noting that he has held this position since 2017.
