Real Madrid: Crises in the Locker Room and Uncertainty About the New Coach
Friday 01-05-2026
Press reports, citing ESPN, revealed that Real Madrid is experiencing a difficult season in terms of results, which has directly impacted the locker room and even the sports structure within the club.

According to the same source, the tension within the team did not stop with the change of the coaching staff after the dismissal of Xabi Alonso during the season, but developed into altercations and disputes within the royal team's locker room.

The reports explained that some problems occurred between several players and Álvaro Arbeloa, who is facing increasing criticism after the defeats to Real Betis and Girona.

ESPN also pointed out that a tense situation occurred weeks ago during a training session when Antonio Rüdiger got into a heated argument with an unidentified teammate at the Valdebebas training center, before the incident was downplayed within the team and considered related to the player's emotional nature.

According to the reports, the tension within the team also extended to the period after Xabi Alonso's dismissal, as the coach left amid disagreements with three prominent players: Vinícius Júnior, Federico Valverde, and Jude Bellingham.

Despite attempts to calm the atmosphere within the team, subsequent reports indicate that disagreements continue between Arbeloa and several players since he took responsibility last January.

In this context, sources spoke of a dispute between the coach and Dani Ceballos, who has not been called up since, in addition to another disagreement with Raúl Asensio after an incident that angered the coaching staff.

The reports also noted tension in the relationship between captain Dani Carvajal and Arbeloa, where the player feels he deserves more opportunities, while the coach believes he is making decisions in the best interest of the team.

At the administrative level, ESPN clarified that Real Madrid issued an official statement on April 10 denying the search for a sporting director, but sources within the club indicated disagreements in this matter as well after a transfer market that did not achieve some of its objectives as required.

There was also talk of the possibility of Toni Kroos returning to the club in an administrative role, with sources confirming that the idea is welcomed within Real Madrid.

Amidst these circumstances, reports indicated that the club is searching for its fourth coach in the last two years, with a long list of candidates.

According to ESPN, Mauricio Pochettino was among the proposed names, along with José Mourinho, Jürgen Klopp, Didier Deschamps, Lionel Scaloni, Massimiliano Allegri, and Unai Emery.

Sources indicated that the final decision has not been made yet due to a lack of consensus within the club, and some candidates may not be available until after the World Cup.

In this context, José Mourinho's name recently emerged, with sources confirming that he is in contact with some current Real Madrid players, while the Portuguese coach remained silent when asked about his future.

The reports also clarified that Mourinho is considered one of several options, while sources indicate that his release clause with Benfica will soon increase from 3 million euros to 6 million euros.

The same source revealed that Real Madrid also inquired about Lionel Scaloni's situation, without any formal negotiations taking place with the Argentina national team coach so far.
