Guardiola: The performance was better than the result, and this is our position on the transfer market
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, expressed his disappointment after the loss to Tottenham by two goals to none in the second round of the Premier League, confirming that his team's performance was better than the final result.
The coach said: "I felt that the performance was better than the result. We started the match well, but we conceded a goal and lost the ball in simple situations, and with the high quality Tottenham has, we struggled in transitions. The goal they scored at the end of the first half made things harder for us."
He added: "We needed one goal and we had chances to achieve it, like the unawarded penalty for Oscar Bob, and attempts from Haaland and Ryan Cherki. We didn't read the pressure and individual marking perfectly, but in the attacking third we were good and controlled the transitions. The result is not good, but we will learn from it."
Regarding Ryan Ait-Nouri's injury, the Spanish coach clarified: "I don't know yet, I haven't spoken with the doctors so far."
As for the remainder of the summer transfer market, he said: "We will see, we have a long week, we will talk with the club, the players, and their agents, and we will see what happens."
He also discussed his decision to give goalkeeper James Trafford the chance to play as a starter over Ederson: "He had a good game against Wolverhampton, and we decided to continue with him."
He concluded: "I know what we are working on and what the players are providing. We have many good things, but we need to improve. I said the same thing after the Wolverhampton match. Step by step until we reach the required harmony. Now we will rest for seven days and prepare for the last match before the international break."
