Guardiola: I Wish I Were a Magician, and the Transfer Market Is Unpredictable
Friday 22-08-2025
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Tottenham in the second round of the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep confirmed that Rodri and Phil Foden are ready after missing the previous match due to unfitness, while Mateo Kovacic, Gvardiol, and Savinyo will remain out of the squad due to injury.

He explained: "I want Rodri to maintain the continuity of his performance. For me, he is the best player in the world right now. It just needs continuous training and matches."

He also pointed out the necessity of managing the training load for players returning from long-term injuries to ensure their readiness in the long term.

Regarding the transfer market and rumors, when asked about the future of some players like Manuel Akanji, he said: "I don’t know. They are our players, and we will see what happens. Some things will happen in the coming days, and the transfer market is unpredictable."

About facing Tottenham: "Tottenham is always a tough competitor for us, but this is a new season, and the past is over. We have new energy and a different atmosphere, and we hope our performance will be similar to the first 20 minutes of our match against them last season."

The Spanish coach also praised Thomas Frank, the current coach of Tottenham: "Thomas is a top-class coach, as he proved with Brentford. He will bring something different to Tottenham, but we have to wait to see what the team looks like under his leadership."

He concluded: "We are in a new season with a new atmosphere. I love what I see in daily training, but I cannot predict the future. I wish I were a magician to know what will happen."
