Barcelona Clarifies Reasons for Financial Guarantee for Compliance with Financial Fair Play
Barcelona clarified the reasons for providing a financial guarantee of 7 million euros, aimed at complying with the Financial Fair Play rules imposed by the Spanish league. This was stated in a press conference held by Xavi O'Callahan, the director of professional sports at the club, on Monday.
O'Callahan explained that La Liga differentiates between players and first-team staff eligible for registration, and other personnel in professional departments, coaching staff, and others who make up what is called the total wage bill, which must adhere to the imposed financial limit.
During the review of the budget for the 2024/2025 season, it was found that there is an excess of 7 million euros in unregistered salaries. The club believes that the reason for this is related to bonuses tied to achievements made. As a result, La Liga requested a financial guarantee to cover this deficit, emphasizing that failure to provide the guarantee could lead to a deduction from the first team's wage bill.
O'Callahan pointed out that the financial guarantee does not imply an excessive agreement, noting that departments like basketball spent according to the approved budget. He affirmed that the board of directors bears financial responsibility to protect the club's competitiveness.
Barcelona expects that the unregistered wage bill in the 2025/2026 season will reach 95 million euros, including professional departments, the academy, and the coaching staff.
