Ter Stegen's Absence for Four Months Gives Barcelona the Green Light to Register Juan Garcia
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' revealed that Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be sidelined for up to four months due to a back injury, which has been classified by the medical committee of La Liga as a long-term absence.
Based on this official step, FC Barcelona will be able to register goalkeeper Juan Garcia in the team’s roster, but according to La Liga regulations, only a certain percentage of the injured player's salary is allowed to be used for registering a replacement.
According to the report, Barcelona will only be able to use 50% of Ter Stegen's salary, which amounts to about 6 million euros out of the 12 million that the German goalkeeper earns annually, a sufficient amount to register Juan Garcia in the first team.
If Ter Stegen's absence were to exceed five months, Barcelona would have been able to use 80% of his salary, which is approximately 9.8 million euros; however, the regulations state that this amount can only be used to register a replacement for the injured goalkeeper and not for any other transaction.
