Nuno Tavares Leaves Arsenal and Joins Lazio Permanently
Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares has completed his permanent transfer to Italian club Lazio from English side Arsenal, in a deal worth £6 million, following three years since his last appearance in the Gunners' shirt.
Tavares, 25 years old, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2021 from Benfica and participated in 28 matches during his first season, scoring a goal against Manchester United in a 3-1 victory for his team.
He was part of the team that finished the 2021/2022 season in fifth place, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Champions League. With the arrival of Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer of 2022, Tavares fell out of the first-team plans and spent the next three seasons on loan at Marseille, Nottingham Forest, and then Lazio.
During his loan spell at Lazio, Tavares delivered impressive performances, providing 9 assists and contributing to the team's seventh-place finish in Serie A. He also received his first call-up to the Portugal national team last November during their 5-1 victory over Poland.
Tavares has signed a three-year contract with Lazio, while Arsenal thanked him in an official statement, wishing him success in his future career.
