Arteta: We Face Many Challenges, But We Will Continue to Compete
Friday 04-04-2025
Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, confirmed that defenders Jurriën Timber and Ben White may be available to participate against Everton in the Premier League, noting that the final decision regarding their involvement will depend on the circumstances at hand.

Arteta stated in the press conference before the Everton match: "We need to make a decision about the risk of including Timber and White, especially since we face limited options in defense, just days before our anticipated match against Real Madrid in the Champions League."

He added: "Timber sustained an injury during the Fulham match, while White missed the game due to a knee issue. As for Ricardo Calvori, he is still not ready to return, which makes our defensive options very limited."

Arteta spoke about the absence of defender Gabriel until the end of the season due to a hamstring injury, explaining the impact of this on the team: "Losing Gabriel until the end of the season has been really tough for us, especially since we just got Bukayo Saka back from injury, but we have to find alternative solutions and continue to compete strongly."

When asked about the possibility of Bukayo Saka participating against Everton, Arteta said: "We will decide tomorrow how many minutes Saka will play; he needs to play to gain more match fitness, but we will consider his physical condition."

Arteta emphasized that the team needs all players to come together to compensate for Gabriel's absence, saying: "We cannot rely on just one player to fill this gap; everyone must contribute and work collectively to make up for the loss of this important player."

The Spanish coach addressed the recurring hamstring injury issue within the team, stating: "It is difficult to pinpoint a clear reason for this problem, as the nature of each injury differs from another. The club is conducting research to understand how to reduce the occurrence of these injuries in the future."

Arteta stressed that the team's primary focus right now is the Everton match, not the encounter with Real Madrid, clarifying: "Football is an emotional game, and we cannot think about facing Real Madrid before we play against Everton. The most important thing now is to secure a win in the Premier League."

Arteta commented on Kevin De Bruyne's announcement of leaving Manchester City at the end of the season, saying: "I worked with him when I was an assistant at Manchester City, and I consider him one of the best players in the Premier League. I have not seen a player who can execute precise passes with such incredible speed."

He also talked about the atmosphere within Arsenal, confirming that he enjoys working at the club: "I am always excited to come back to work here, and I hope we can maintain this positive spirit within the team for many years to come."

Regarding the away match against Everton, Arteta confirmed that playing at Goodison Park has a special significance for him, saying: "Goodison Park is a special place for me, and this will be my last visit there with Arsenal before Everton moves to their new stadium. Additionally, David Moyes's return to manage the team is a beautiful story."

Arteta clarified that the team's priority right now is to win the match against Everton, not to rest players for Real Madrid, asserting: "The best way to prepare for facing Real Madrid is to win in the Premier League, not to rest the players."

He concluded his statements by emphasizing the importance of adapting to injuries and difficult circumstances, saying: "We are facing many challenges, but we must find alternative solutions and continue to compete in the best possible way."
