Officially.. Korea Suspended for 5 Matches Due to Referee Insult
Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atlético Madrid, has faced a significant blow following the Spanish Football Federation's decision to suspend Ángel Correa, the team's star, for five matches due to insulting the referee during the Getafe match, in addition to being sent off during the game.
The match between Atlético Madrid and Getafe, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the latter in the last round of La Liga, saw Ángel Correa receive a red card in the 88th minute for a violent tackle against Djené.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", the competition committee decided to suspend Correa for 4 matches due to insulting referee Cuadra Fernández, along with an additional match for the direct red card, bringing the total suspension to 5 matches.
Reports indicated that Atlético Madrid intends to file an appeal to reduce the penalty; however, the disciplinary committee confirmed that it applied the minimum according to the regulations of Article 99, clarifying that Correa's apology via social media does not constitute grounds for leniency.
Since the penalty exceeds 4 matches, it will be enforced across all national competitions, meaning Correa will miss 4 La Liga matches against Barcelona, Espanyol, Sevilla, and Real Valladolid, in addition to the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
