Arteta: The Champions League is Our Realistic Chance, and We Will Fight for the Premier League
Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, confirmed that his team will continue to fight on all fronts this season, noting that the Champions League represents a realistic opportunity to achieve a major title, while still holding onto the competition for the Premier League title.
Arsenal is close to securing its qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after thrashing PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the first leg of the Round of 16.
Arteta said at the press conference before the second leg: "We have put in a lot of enthusiasm and energy into the Champions League, and winning tomorrow will put us in a fantastic position. We are a consistently performing team, and we are confidently moving towards our goals."
Regarding Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League title, where they currently sit second with 55 points, 15 points behind the leader, he said: "We will continue to fight to try to win every match; that is the only thing we can do right now, as the title does not depend solely on us."
When asked about his preference between winning the Premier League or the Champions League, he replied: "I am lucky that I do not have to choose; no one has put me in that position. We have four competitions at the beginning of the season, and we are taking each one very seriously, and we will see what we can achieve."
Regarding the pressures the team faces, Arteta clarified: "These are not additional pressures, but rather part of the requirements of a big club like Arsenal. We are well aware that what is required of us is to reach the highest level and compete for all titles."
