Suspension of Referee in Roberts and Mateta Incident
Tuesday 04-03-2025
The English referee Michael Oliver, who officiated the FA Cup match between Crystal Palace and Millwall, has been suspended due to the violent intervention of Millwall's goalkeeper Liam Roberts on Palace's striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The penalty imposed on Oliver is his exclusion from officiating matches next week, due to his failure to issue a direct red card to Roberts after the extremely violent tackle on the French forward.

Oliver had initially shown a yellow card to Roberts, only to realize the severity of the tackle that resulted in 25 stitches for Mateta after reviewing the video technology, which led to the penalty against him for the simplicity of the case and the necessity of issuing a red card without the need for technology.
