About the Team

Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland national football team is the official representative of Northern Ireland in international competitions, overseen by the Irish Football Association, which was established in 1880 and is one of the oldest associations in the world. The team has participated in the World Cup three times (1958, 1982, 1986), achieving its best result by reaching the quarter-finals in 1958. It also participated in Euro 2016 and reached the Round of 16 in its first appearance in the European Championship. The team is nicknamed 'The Green and White Army' and plays its matches at Windsor Park in the capital, Belfast.
