Guardiola: We did our job, and Foden is still not at his best
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke in press statements after defeating Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in the Champions League.
The coach said: “We had to do With our work, we did that. This group of players is great, we played a good game, and we had many chances, so we got the first three points in the competition.”
He added: "We said we needed one more goal. It was almost 3-0 over because they defended with more courage to play but after 2-0 and the chances we had, we were patient and attacked really well. Sometimes we have to attack faster but Yes, a good result.”
As for whether he started thinking about goal difference under the new system of the tournament: “When I think about that, perhaps I am conservative, perhaps it is winning matches.” Enough. We have three very difficult matches away from home. Today, we achieved our first victory and rose to a slightly higher position in the table.”
He added: “Gundogan has a strong mentality. The game against Newcastle wasn't really good, it was probably one of the worst games I've ever seen with him in the last eight or nine years, but it happens. That's why he should play, in his position, as a defensive midfielder. He's very intelligent. He played a great match today."
On Phil Foden: "Yes, he still... Not at his best, he scored a great goal, passed the ball to the post and didn't shoot, he had more chances. Step by step, he will come back.”
He concluded: “James McAtee? We are all very happy for him, he is great and all the players love him. There are a lot of matches, everyone will contribute. He moved really well in small spaces, scored a great goal and got another chance. That would be a good boost for him. We want to make him feel part of this group and able to play, and we hope today will help him with that.”
