Fernandez: I let my team down, and I didn't deserve to be sent off
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes appeared in press statements after the 3-0 loss to Tottenham in the sixth round of the English Premier League.
The player said: “I wanted to Just coming in and talking [to the interview] and being myself because my teammates deserved it for what they did in the match by playing with ten men after I was sent off, I let them down.”
He added: “The team showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience, a lot of fight. They tried. It was not easy.”
On the red card: “It was not a red card.” "Never, that's my point of view. I agree it's a foul but it's not a foul at all. The referee tried to tell me that as he saw it was clear contact with the spikes, no I didn't touch him with the spikes or even the foot, it was a clear foul." p>
He stressed: “If he wants to give me a yellow card because they are going to counter-attack, then I agree. But more than that, no. This is not the case.”
On the difficulty of the match before the red card: “Yes, I think we suffered a little. We tried to impose our control a little, rush the game and play very quickly. When they were controlling the ball, we made mistakes, then we were punished, and things did not go the way we wanted.
He concluded: “The red card made things worse. I have to appreciate everything.” The efforts my teammates made to try to get back into the game, but it wasn't possible. They showed great effort and great character, and I'm happy about that."
