Fakhreddine Ben Youssef sends message to Chabani after shining against Club Africain
Tunisian forward Fakhreddine Ben Youssef has reignited his international ambitions, expressing hope to earn the trust of coach Moin Chabani and return to the Tunisia national team ahead of the squad announcement next Saturday for the matches against Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification.
Fakhreddine Ben Youssef's comments came after his impressive performance in his team's match against Stade Tunisien today, Tuesday, where he led them to a thrilling victory with a score of 2-1 in the third round of the local league, scoring the winning goal in stoppage time.
Club Africain took the lead through Sadek Qdida in the 11th minute, but Stade Tunisien equalized in stoppage time of the first half, specifically in the 45th minute +2, with a header from Iskander Al-Saghir.
As the match was heading towards a draw, Fakhreddine Ben Youssef appeared in the 92nd minute to snatch the winning goal with a superb shot following a precise cross, giving his team three valuable points that raised their tally to 13 points in second place, level with Espérance, while Club Africain remained at 12 points, having a postponed match.
Fakhreddine Ben Youssef joined Stade Tunisien during the summer of 2026, arriving from US Monastir on a free transfer after the end of his contract. Since then, he has managed to deliver strong performances that have brought his name back into the frame for a call-up to the Tunisia national team during the international break from November 8 to 17.
In exclusive statements to "Erem News", Tunisian striker Fakhreddine Ben Youssef confirmed that his ambition to return to the national team is legitimate, noting that he has previously defended his country's colors in nearly 40 international matches, and participated in the FIFA World Cup 2018, alongside the Africa Cup of Nations editions in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017.
Fakhreddine Ben Youssef insists on his right to aspire to represent the national team, explaining that international retirement should not be considered merely due to being left out of the squad, but rather should be linked to a decision to end his football career entirely.
He added that he hopes to be among the selections of Mondher Kebaïli, confirming his readiness to give everything he has for the national team if the coach sees that he deserves the call-up. However, he emphasized at the same time his support for any other names that are chosen, as the interest of the Tunisian national team comes before any personal consideration.
Tunisia will face Libya on November 13 in the third round of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualification, before the two teams meet again on the 17th of the same month in Tripoli.
