Sunderland extend contract of striker Braian Brobbey until 2031

Sunderland have announced today, Tuesday, the extension of Dutch striker Braian Brobbey's contract for a long-term deal that runs until 2031, allowing the player to continue his journey with the team in the coming years.

Brobey, 24 years old, has joined Sunderland from Ajax in the summer of 2025, and has managed to establish himself within the team's attacking line, thanks to his physical strength, speed, and scoring abilities.

The Dutch striker made headlines by scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last September, becoming the first player from Sunderland to score a hat-trick in the Premier League since Jermain Defoe in 2016.

Proby said after signing the new contract: "I am very happy with the trust the club has shown in me. Since my arrival, I have felt the ambition that is here, and I want to continue to develop and improve as a player."

"Representing Sunderland in the Premier League is a great honor and privilege. I feel immense pride in contributing to the club's qualification for European competitions, an achievement that will remain part of the club's history."

He continued: "I know that I am still capable of delivering a better version of myself, and that motivates me every day. I want to score goals, help the team, and give our fans reasons to be proud."

For his part, Lorran Ghisolfi, Sunderland's sporting director, expressed his happiness at extending the player's contract, confirming that the agreement reflects the shared belief in what can be achieved in the future and the desire to continue progressing.

Ghisolfi added that Probi has important potential and that the club believes in his ability to deliver more, noting that the club's responsibility is to support his development and help him achieve his full potential.

Proby has played 40 matches for Sunderland in all competitions since officially joining on September 1, 2025, scoring 10 goals.
