The public prosecutor's office in Lucerne, Switzerland, has issued a ruling against Granit Xhaka, the captain of the Swiss national team and Sunderland player, after he admitted to obtaining a forged vaccination certificate against COVID-19 in 2022 while playing for Arsenal.

The judge has imposed a fine of 150,000 Swiss francs on Granit Xhaka, amounting to 50 days of penalty, with each day valued at 3,000 Swiss francs. The execution of the penalty has been suspended for two years.

Under the decision, Granit Xhaka will not be required to pay a fine unless he commits a new criminal offense during the probation period. The player confirmed that he accepts the decision and takes full responsibility for his actions, noting that he fully cooperated with the public prosecution.

Granit Xhaka admitted to purchasing a fake vaccination certificate last September, expressing regret over the incident. He also covered the legal costs, while the Swiss Football Association announced that it was aware of the ruling, indicating that the case is legally concluded.
