Ismail Sabiri injury raises concern ahead of Morocco national team camp
Moroccan international Ismail Sabiri suffered a concerning injury during his team's match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, in the 8th round of the Bundesliga, after he was forced to leave the pitch before the end of the first half.
The midfielder sustained an ankle injury following a collision with Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, during a moment when the player was close to opening the scoring after breaking through on goal, but he was unable to convert the opportunity into a goal.
Moroccan player Azzedine Ounahi was unable to finish the match, leaving the pitch in the 29th minute due to injury, and was replaced by his teammate Nathaniel Brown. There is concern regarding the severity of the injury and the potential duration of his absence, as official clarifications about his health status are awaited.
The injury comes less than two weeks before Soufiane El-Faouzi joins the Moroccan national team, which is preparing to face Niger on November 13 and 17 in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Coach Mohamed Wahbi is expected to monitor the health status of the player, especially with the announcement of the upcoming squad set for Wednesday, November 4, amid numerous absences affecting the national team.
A number of players will miss out on the national team's plans, led by Azzedine Ounahi, who underwent successful surgery after suffering a complete tear in the right hamstring tendon, along with Soufiane El-Faouzi, Chadi Riad, Youssef Belammari, Soufiane Rahimi, Ayoub El Kaabi, and Hamza Eghman.
Ilias Akhomach suffered a muscle injury during his team's match against Valencia, while doubts remain over Soufiane El-Faouzi's fitness after he sustained a nose injury and a deep cut on his forehead following a collision with Robin Gosens during his team's game against 1.FC Köln.
These developments put Mohamed Wahbi in front of a new challenge before the upcoming camp, as he awaits clarity on the medical situation of injured players and determining their ability to participate in the matches, especially with the announcement of the squad approaching and the limited time available to finalize the selections.
