Füllkrug matches Rudi Völler’s historic record
SV Werder Bremen secured an important victory against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with a score of 2-0 in the match held on Saturday evening, as part of the ninth round of the Bundesliga. This win allows them to continue their positive run, achieving their fifth consecutive match without defeat in the competition.
Niklas Füllkrug opened the scoring for the hosts in the 57th minute, marking his seventh consecutive match on the scoresheet in the Bundesliga, equalling the record set by the legend Rudi Völler, who achieved the same feat with SV Werder Bremen during the 1982-1983 season, 42 years ago.
Füllkrug is now one step away from breaking the club's historical record, but he is still far from the overall competition record held by Robert Lewandowski, who scored in 13 consecutive matches with Bayern Munich in 2021.
Iren Dinkci confirmed SV Werder Bremen's victory by scoring the second goal in the 82nd minute, temporarily lifting the team to fifth place, just two points behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's points tally stagnated, dropping them to eleventh place and ending their consecutive winning streak in the Bundesliga at two matches.
