SV Werder Bremen snatch thrilling draw against Borussia Dortmund in stoppage time

SV Werder Bremen held Borussia Dortmund to a 2-2 draw on Friday night in the Bundesliga, coming back from two goals down in the last ten minutes. They scored the equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

Borussia Dortmund dominated the first half, enjoying up to 80% possession at times, but struggled to break through SV Werder Bremen's defense. The best chance for the hosts came from Maximilian Bayer, who found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Karl Hein in the 43rd minute, but the latter excelled and expertly cleared the ball. Meanwhile, Ludovit Reis nearly gave the visitors the lead, firing a shot that went just past the post in the 37th minute.

After the break, Borussia Dortmund intensified their pressure, but goalkeeper Karl Hein continued to excel in saving attempts from Nico Schlotterbeck and Ethan Nwaneri. Meanwhile, Niclas Füllkrug wasted a dangerous opportunity for SV Werder Bremen in the 54th minute, after Gregor Kobel saved his shot with his foot. Dortmund finally succeeded in translating their pressure into a lead in the 80th minute, when Daniel Svensson capitalized on a ball set up for him by Fabio Silva, before Schlotterbeck doubled the score with a header in the 85th minute from a corner.

SV Werder Bremen refused to give up, reducing the deficit through Ludovit Reis in the 88th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box, before Niclas Füllkrug snatched the equaliser in the 90+3rd minute with a header from a free kick taken by Michael Grüll.

With this thrilling return, SV Werder Bremen continued their unbeaten streak to four matches, accumulating 8 points in fourth place, while Borussia Dortmund squandered the opportunity to win after leading by two goals until the final minutes, remaining temporarily at the top with 13 points.
