Polish talent of Egyptian descent set to represent Belgium after facing racist abuse
Young player Issam Abdel Hamid, a midfielder for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, has decided to represent Belgium at youth level after facing racist abuse on social media due to his skin color, despite having played for Poland's U16 team.
The story began in early October when Abdul Hamid scored a wonderful goal from a direct free-kick while wearing the Poland U16 jersey during a match against Greece. However, instead of receiving praise for his performance, he was met with a wave of racist comments, with some followers even questioning his right to represent the Polish national team due to the color of his skin.
After weeks since that incident, the player, born in Belgium, has decided to join the Belgian national team, which recently called him up to join the Under-16 squad, noting that he holds three nationalities: Polish, Belgian, and Egyptian.
Abdul Hamid is considered one of the promising talents in European football, and he has already signed his first professional contract in his career with PSV Eindhoven, amid great hopes for his football future.
