Marcos Llorente criticises Spanish transport minister after train crash
Marcos Llorente, Atlético midfielder, has sharply criticized Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente following a high-speed train collision in Spain that resulted in fatalities.
Marcos Llorente posted a message on his Instagram account, expressing his anger at the minister's preoccupation with discussions on social media instead of focusing on his responsibilities regarding public transport safety. The player said: "Dear Oscar Puente, isn't it time to put Twitter aside and focus on the work we are paying you for?".
Atlético player, 31, stated that protecting lives requires the transport minister to act with responsibility and seriousness, ensuring safety and respecting citizens. He criticized what he described as politicians being preoccupied with winning debates on social media, "as if they were thirteen-year-olds," instead of taking on their responsibilities.
Marcos Llorente continued his attack by stating that the minister's job is to manage public transport, ensure its safety, and hold officials accountable when mistakes occur, considering his performance in this area to be catastrophic. His remarks came after an accident occurred on Wednesday morning between two trains belonging to the private company "Irio" and the national company "Renfe", near the Orda station in the Castilla-La Mancha region, south of Madrid. Local authorities indicated, according to the report, that at least ten people had died, with the possibility of the toll rising.
