Atlético consider activating Jonathan David purchase option
Atlético are seriously considering activating the purchase clause for Canadian forward Jonathan David, on loan from Juventus, for €25 million, given their satisfaction with the player's performance during the early weeks of the season, according to Sky Sport Germany.
David, 26, feels comfortable at Atlético and is open to continuing with the Spanish team on a permanent basis, while he is under contract with Juventus until the summer of 2030. Talks regarding his future are set to take place, with no final decision made yet on activating the purchase option.
Statistically, David has made a notable start with Atlético, as he scored 3 goals and assisted 2 in his first 5 matches in La Liga, totaling 296 minutes played, contributing directly to 5 goals, with a goal contribution rate of approximately every 59 minutes.
The Canadian forward joined Juventus in the summer of 2025 from Lille on a free transfer, scoring 8 goals in his first season with the Italian team across all competitions, before moving to Atlético on loan in September 2026.
David has previously shone in Lille's shirt, scoring 109 goals and providing 31 assists over five years, which boosts Atlético's hopes of benefiting from his attacking abilities in the long term if they decide to turn the loan into a permanent transfer.
