Sale of Norway national team support drum at FIFA World Cup for over 124,000 euros
The original drum that became a symbol of support for the Norway national team at the FIFA World Cup has been sold for 1.3 million Norwegian kroner, over 124,000 euros, at a charity auction.
The drum gained its fame from the cheering rituals known as the 'Viking clap', during which fans and players chanted 'Ro!'. It was also used by striker Erling Haaland and King Haakon during events related to the Norway national team.
Knut Øglænd, the owner of the Norwegian shipping company, bought the drum, stating: "It is for a noble cause, and that is the most important thing. I did not expect such fierce competition at the auction," describing the drum as "a small piece of Norway's history."
The auction took place as part of the annual fundraising campaign organized by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation "NRK", with proceeds designated for the Norwegian Refugee Council to support refugees around the world. Øglænd has not yet specified the destination where the drum will settle.
