Allegri faces additional sanctions for comments against AS Roma
Massimiliano Allegri, the head coach of Napoli, faces the risk of additional sanctions from the sports authorities of the Italian Football Federation following his controversial statements after the 3-3 draw against AS Roma in Serie A.
According to "La Gazzetta dello Sport", Massimiliano Allegri's remarks have angered AS Roma's management after he hinted that the team received refereeing assistance during the race for UEFA Champions League qualification last season, saying: "Last year they put the UEFA Champions League in AS Roma's pocket... it's always the same people."
Roma officials, along with coach Gian Piero Gasperini and the Friedkin family, expressed their displeasure at comments made by Napoli's coach, which they considered to be a questioning of the team's right to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, amid anticipation for the relevant authorities to take necessary action.
In a new development, Massimiliano Allegri has indeed been punished with a two-match suspension for comments deemed inappropriate towards match officials during the encounter with AS Roma. Meanwhile, his statements regarding the capital club are still under evaluation by the federal sports prosecutor's office, with the possibility of an additional financial penalty if separate disciplinary actions are decided.
