Carrick: It was a tough day for the players, and I didn't say goodbye to the fans

Michael Carrick, the manager of Manchester United, spoke to Sky Sports after the 3-0 loss against Bournemouth in the eighth round of the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Carrick said: "Leny Yoro slipped in the build-up to the second goal, and there was a questionable decision to award a free-kick against Ayden Heaven for the first goal. I didn't think any player was close enough to him to warrant a foul. Yoro's slip is unfortunate, as he is a talented player with a bright future. He made a mistake today and feels upset, but he shouldn't dwell on it. Mistakes happen; in fact, it wasn't a mistake in the true sense, just a slip."

He added: "For the third goal, the fans were expecting us to deliver something in the second half. If we had gotten one chance and scored a goal, the supporters would have been with us. But we couldn't find that moment, and the third goal was killer. After that, things went as they went. Clearly, the emotions at the end of the match were mixed and strange, and it wasn't a good way to end the game."

Manchester United's manager said: "It was a difficult day for them, as we entered the match somewhat affected, and that was clear on the pitch. Nevertheless, the players kept trying, and they feel disappointment and pain. It's not a good feeling to see this level of frustration, but we have to accept the situation we are currently in."

Bruno Fernandes stated: "It is difficult for me to live a day like this at this club and feel all these emotions, not on a personal level, but because of what Manchester United is going through. It was a day full of conflicting emotions. I feel a great responsibility, as I have spent a long time at the club, and it is very painful to see the team going through these circumstances at the moment."

Regarding his decision to keep Bruno Fernandes on the bench, Carrick said: "There are always moments when you try to make decisions to change the course of the game and make a difference, but those were the decisions we made today."

Regarding his gesture to the fans after the end of the match, Carrick denied that this step was a farewell, explaining: "It was not a farewell gesture from me; I feel mixed emotions, and I think about my players who are going through a tough time. There are things we can help them with, and others where the circumstances are developing in a way that is difficult to control, and the players are feeling the weight of the situation right now."

He concluded his statements by saying: "Having this relationship with the fans makes the emotions mixed, and I will need some time to digest what happened, but I certainly appreciate their support. The situation is clear, and our results or levels have not been good enough. It is a difficult period, and that cannot be ignored. I do not know how things will look or what will happen next, but I will continue to give my best for the club, and I will not change that. I love my job and feel the responsibility, and we have to wait and see what happens."
