Negative record haunts Real Madrid in visits to FC Barcelona
Real Madrid are set to face FC Barcelona today at Spotify Camp Nou in a new clásico in LaLiga, with a difficult historical record for the royal team in their visits to their Catalan rivals.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Real Madrid have played 96 matches in LaLiga at FC Barcelona, achieving 23 victories, alongside 20 draws and 53 defeats. Their last loss came last season, with a score of 2-0.
The report clarified that the worst streak for the royal team in its visits to FC Barcelona extended from the 1948/1949 season to the 1961/1962 season, when they played 10 consecutive league matches without achieving a win. Real Madrid also came close to repeating this streak between the 1984/1985 and 1993/1994 seasons, failing to win in nine consecutive matches at Camp Nou.
Real Madrid's first visit to FC Barcelona in LaLiga dates back to 1929, when the royal team won 2-1 at Les Corts, the former home of Barcelona, thanks to goals from Morera, while Pereira scored for Barcelona.
Since that encounter, the clashes in the clásico between the two teams have continued, and the battle renews today, with Real Madrid seeking to improve its historical record in visits to the home of FC Barcelona.
