Barkley shines again with Aston Villa
Ross Barkley has regained his sparkle in an Aston Villa shirt under manager Unai Emery, making a strong start to the current season, having scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in all competitions, surpassing his total goal contributions from last season, indicating his return to his usual levels.
Ross Barkley scored to give Aston Villa the lead against Norwegian side Viking in the 22nd minute, continuing to enhance his numbers this season. After managing only 3 goals and 1 assist during the 2025-2026 season, he has already contributed to 6 goals in the current campaign.
Unai Emery praised Ross Barkley's performances, recalling his first impression of him when he played for Luton Town. He said: "Ross Barkley is a very good player with a lot of experience, and I don't know why his career started to decline after Chelsea. When we saw him with Luton, we said: what a player!".
The Spanish coach added: "I am very happy with the way he plays football with us, and with his constant respect for everyone, whether he participates or not. I put a lot of pressure on him offensively because I know he is capable of scoring goals, and he is also good at heading the ball. I am very demanding of him offensively, and I am happy for him."
Barkley had praised his coach a few days ago, expressing his confidence in his abilities, saying: "Unai Emery is one of the best coaches in the world. Over time, everyone learns and develops, and that is exciting."
Ross Barkley hopes to continue his impressive form during the upcoming period, benefiting from Emery's trust, in an effort to solidify his place in the Aston Villa lineup and keep contributing to the team's attacking play.
