Aston Villa await Barkley and Hemmings fitness ahead of Newcastle clash
Aston Villa are awaiting the status of players Ross Barkley and George Hemming, ahead of their clash with Newcastle United on Saturday evening in the Premier League, amid doubts over the duo's fitness.
Ross Barkley scored two goals during Aston Villa's 6-0 win over Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, but he left the pitch in the closing minutes due to pain, while Himenings missed the match entirely.
Spanish manager Unai Emery of Aston Villa said during the pre-match press conference: "We will see this afternoon how Ross is doing after Wednesday's match. He played 85 minutes and was feeling some pain, and we will assess his condition this afternoon."
Bruno Lage added regarding Hwang Hee-chan: "He is close to joining us, and he may join training this afternoon, and we will see to make a decision regarding his participation tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Ian Maatsen and Matteo Ruggeri continue to be absent due to injury, along with Amadú, who is suffering from a long-term injury.
Aston Villa will visit Newcastle United on Saturday, October 17, at St James' Park, in the upcoming round of the Premier League.
