Club Africain considers streaming TP Mazembe match on its digital platform
Club Africain is set to stream their decisive match against TP Mazembe in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League through their own digital platform, after negotiations to sell broadcasting rights to public and private television channels faltered.
The Tunisian team will host their Congolese counterpart on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the Rades Olympic Stadium, in a match where they aim to secure a place in the group stage, which they have missed since the 2019 edition.
Club Africain secured a valuable 1-1 draw at TP Mazembe's stadium in Lubumbashi during the first leg match held last Saturday, giving themselves the opportunity to secure qualification at home in front of their fans.
Club Africain fans are facing ongoing issues regarding the broadcast of their matches in the continental competition, which began on September 5 against Djoliba. The club's management refused to sell the broadcasting rights to Tunisian public television, opting instead to stream the first-round match via their digital platform, before later turning to the private platform 'Diwan Sport'.
The digital broadcasting experience has faced widespread criticism due to frequent interruptions, angering subscribers who paid to watch the matches but could only see a few minutes of the first three encounters in the tournament.
In this context, a source from Tunisian television revealed that the management of the public institution invited officials from Club Africain to a meeting to discuss the broadcast of the match against TP Mazembe. However, the club's management rejected the invitation and insisted on their financial demands, set at 350,000 Tunisian dinars, equivalent to about 120,000 dollars, in exchange for broadcasting rights.
In light of stalled negotiations, Club Africain's management is set to stream the match via its own app 'Afriki Play', with a subscription fee of 10 Tunisian dinars per person, approximately 3.4 dollars.
Despite this, Club Africain has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the transfer of the match, while attempts by Tunisian television to secure broadcasting rights are still ongoing, leaving the door open for the possibility of reaching an agreement at the last moment.
The match is scheduled to start on Sunday, October 25, at the Rades Olympic Stadium at 6 PM local time and 8 PM in Mecca time, amid great fan anticipation to secure a spot in the group stage.
