Club Africain posts financial surplus for the first time since 2015

Club Africain has recorded a remarkable financial turnaround after many years of crises and debts, as it announced today, Sunday, that it has achieved a surplus in its budget for the 2025-2026 sporting season, marking the first such result since 2015.

The club revealed its figures during the general evaluation session, which was dedicated to reviewing last season's achievements, including the African club winning the Tunisian Professional League title, alongside presenting the financial report related to the various branches of the club.

The data provided showed that the total revenues of the African club during the last season amounted to about 30.9 million Tunisian dinars, while expenses reached nearly 29 million dinars, allowing the club to finish the season with a financial surplus estimated at around 1.9 million Tunisian dinars, equivalent to approximately 700,000 dollars.

This outcome is of great importance considering the difficult financial situation that Étoile Sportive du Sahel has experienced for years, especially since the 2016-2017 season, when the club entered a series of crises that resulted in the accumulation of debts and the emergence of numerous disputes with players, coaches, agents, and clubs, alongside sporting and financial penalties.

The crisis peaked during the 2020-2021 season when the team faced relegation to the second division, before securing their survival in the final round, emerging from one of the toughest periods in their history.

Over the past five years, the club has faced more than 70 debt cases before various sports authorities, both locally and internationally, including FIFA. This has previously resulted in sanctions and point deductions due to unpaid financial obligations.

Despite these commitments, Africain has achieved a clear transformation in its financial situation, as last season's budget became positive for the first time since 2015, indicating an improvement in its resources and its ability to regain some financial balance.

Club president Mohsen Al-Trabelsi praised the role of the Africain fans during the general assembly for their support in bolstering the team's finances and helping to tackle the burden of debts, affirming that the fans' backing has been a crucial element in overcoming the financial crisis.

The club's fans launched a fundraising initiative in 2021 aimed at settling debts and closing pending cases with FIFA. They succeeded in raising over $5 million, which contributed to resolving more than 42 cases related to players, coaches, agents, and clubs.

The financial improvement coincides with the sporting success achieved by Club Africain during the same season, as they won the Tunisian Professional League title in the 2025-2026 season. This represents a new boost in the club's journey to restore its financial and sporting balance.
