Maddison and Kulusevski bring positive vibes back to Tottenham
Tottenham returned to winning ways in the Premier League, securing an important 3-1 victory over Coventry City on Monday night in the seventh round. The match saw James Maddison return to the starting lineup and Dejan Kulusevski make his comeback after a long injury layoff.
James Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box during his first start for Tottenham since May 2025, having struggled for a long time due to injury. The goal came after a pass from Omar Marmoush, giving the London side an early morale boost, before Jack Rudoni managed to equalise for Coventry in the 50th minute.
Tottenham regained their lead in the 59th minute, when Omar Marmoush scored a stunning goal from outside the box, netting his first goal in the team's shirt. The goal sparked protests from Coventry players, who claimed a foul should have been called during the attack, but the referee allowed it to stand. Ben Davies then secured the victory with a third goal in the 96th minute, benefiting from a pass from Dominic Solanke.
Dejan Kulusevski made a notable return, coming on as a substitute in the 87th minute after a 526-day absence due to a knee injury, to a warm reception from Tottenham fans. His appearance provided an additional boost for the team, which had missed his attacking creativity during his absence.
The win has ended a six-match winless streak for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, allowing them to leave the bottom position and rise to sixteenth place with six points, ahead of Coventry on goal difference. Manager Roberto De Zerbi hopes this victory can be a turning point in the team's season, ahead of their upcoming away match against Chelsea.
