Fury at Real Madrid over Vinicius' red card
Tension continues to surround Real Madrid regarding refereeing decisions, despite a hard-fought win over Villarreal, as Vinicius Junior's red card sparked widespread controversy within the royal team's dressing room, according to Marca.
Real Madrid players did not hide their astonishment at some refereeing decisions following the match, stating that their objections were not limited to the red card received by Vinicius Junior, but extended to other incidents witnessed in previous matches, including the Madrid derby.
"Marca" reported on the atmosphere in the dressing room, where there was an objection stating: "It cannot be that hair pulling warrants a red card, while the tackles that recently occurred against Federico Valverde in the Madrid Derby go unpunished."
The report added that Real Madrid players felt discontent over the difference in the number of cards, as the team received five yellow cards and one red card, compared to only two for their opponents, despite the royal team's players committing eight fouls compared to 13 by Villarreal.
According to the newspaper, what increased the anger of Real Madrid players was what it described as "arrogant" behavior from some members of the officiating crew, which led to verbal confrontations between José Mourinho and the assistant referees and the fourth official during the match.
Marca reported that Mourinho was extremely angry after the match and decided not to attend the post-match press conference, explaining to those close to him that he did not want to talk until he could sit on the bench for the matches against Sevilla and FC Barcelona.
Vinicius Junior was significantly affected by the events of the match, having started on the bench before his attacking participation gave Real Madrid a boost. However, he was sent off after a VAR review and the cancellation of his goal.
The Brazilian player informed his teammates that his contact with Saliba, which involved grabbing hair, was unintentional and he had no intention of harming the opponent, noting that the Villarreal player continued to play during the attack that ended with the disallowed goal.
The newspaper added that Vinicius Junior's teammates in the dressing room accepted his account, with some of them quoted as saying: "He is unable to do that."
In related news, Real Madrid intends to appeal against the yellow card received by Konaté in the final minutes of the match, following a foul called against him on Gerard Moreno. The footage does not show any contact from the defender with the Villarreal forward, and it is believed that the card will be overturned. If it remains, it will be Konaté's fourth booking in eight matches in the league, having received only seven yellow cards in 36 matches in the Premier League last season.
